Drawing circles just got bigger and better than ever before.

The Iris LF is a unique circle drawing tool. Our original design debuted five years ago on Kickstarter and we are back with a scaled-up and improved design.

The Iris LF is your perfect tool for drawing and measuring circles. Simply rotate the rings to open and close its captivating aperture mechanism. Iris will inspire you with every circle you draw.

Iris LF is our eighth Kickstarter and comes exactly five years since the original Iris was launched. The Iris LF was demanded by backers and is a scaled-up version of the original design with extra features.

At Makers Cabinet, we are experts in drawing and writing implements and the designers of the Høvel pencil plane, Stria folding ruler, Ferrule pencil extender and Lazlo ballpoint pen.

We hold the belief that tools for drawing and writing should enhance creativity rather than restrict it. The Iris stands out as an intuitive and distinctive tool, unlike ordinary ones that can feel cumbersome.

Our goal is to evoke a sense of satisfaction in everyone who uses the Iris. Its captivating mechanism brings joy to all who witness it in action. We are convinced that Iris LF can reignite creative inspiration during moments of mental block.

The concept of the original Iris came from conversations with our Kickstarter Community. Our supporters said that the traditional compass lacked innovation and were difficult to use. The new version comes from a similar place, a demand for a bigger and better Iris.

The camera aperture mechanism has stood the test of 200 years of photographic history. Because of this durability, the Iris LF is the ideal replacement for the traditional rotary drawing compass.

At Makers Cabinet, we craft objects that promise longevity and durability. Iris embodies this commitment.

Iris is meticulously crafted from the finest and most durable materials available.

Its rings are precision-machined from solid brass, which will develop a beautiful patina over time, enhancing its appearance and resilience. The leaves are crafted from a carefully chosen grade of stainless spring steel, resistant to ink and graphite, ensuring they maintain their shape with frequent use.  Iris empowers you to effortlessly create precise circles with each stroke of your pencil.

Echoing the design of a camera's aperture, Iris features a scale adorned with a distinctive red arrow. This enables you to easily read the diameter of your circle without the distraction of additional tools. Beneath the leaves of Iris lies a natural rubber mat, ensuring a secure grip on your page. This seamless interaction ensures that your focus remains on your drawing, rather than the tool itself.

Every Iris purchased through Kickstarter includes a wooden base.

The Walnut base serves to pinpoint the centre of a circle. To utilise it, just lay the Iris flat on your surface and position the base against the inside of the iris.

Making concentric and repeating circles is easy with no hole left in the centre of your page.

Makers Cabinet has now existed for 7 years. We started with the intention to redesign the humble pencil sharpener into a tool to be treasured. The Høvel was successfully funded and encouraged us to drive the business forward.

A couple of years on from the Høvel we launched the Iris which went viral and brought some great successes for our business. With the success of Iris we were very much encouraged to continue to build the company and launch new products. Next came the Stria Folding Ruler, Ferrule Pencil Extender and Lazlo Ballpoint Pen. We have recently completed two campaigns for Stainless Steel machined Set Squares and a 100% recycled notepad in collaboration with Are You Mad.

We are committed to our community of backers and are so grateful for all the support over the years. We have had several big ups and some small downs but by our side has been our backers and we are grateful for what we have built together.
